College Policies

Our governance framework is reinforced by a suite of policies that guide our educational and pastoral objectives as well as our legal responsibilities. All College policies undergo a continuous cycle of review to ensure they remain current and ensure best practice.  Policies are developed by the College Leadership and Business Services Teams and require Board approval.

Strategic Plan

The College Strategic Plan is based on the four key central pillars of the Charter for Salesian Schools. Just as Don Bosco did at the Oratory of St Francis de Sales at Valdocco, it is our hope and aim to work with our community to help Dominic College continue to be a place where students can learn, play, thrive and, most importantly, ‘know that they are loved.’

The Charter for Salesian Schools in Australia

In keeping with the spirit of St John Bosco, whereby ‘education is largely a matter of the heart’ that leads young people to ‘know that they are loved’, the Salesian school community of today is challenged to be: a HOME that welcomes, a PARISH that evangelises, a SCHOOL that prepares for life, and a PLAYGROUND where friends meet and enjoy themselves. Faithful to the tradition of St John Bosco, the Salesian school community is constantly challenged to re-interpret and re-enliven his educational vision in every generation and circumstance, according to the requirements of the contemporary situation and the needs of young people, to whom he once said: ‘I have only one wish: that you be happy in this world and the next’.

Learn about the four central pillars of the Salesian Charter that encapsulate Don Bosco’s vision of schools being places where everyone belongs.

The Archbishop’s Charter

Catholic Schools are a vital expression of the mission of the Church in the Archdiocese of Hobart. They are the means by which not only students, but also families and the staff experience the richness and beauty of Catholic life. The Archbishop’s Charter outlines the pastoral priorities of the Archbishop which inspire and guide the work of Catholic Schools.

Response to the Archbishop’s Charter

All Catholic schools are required to respond to the Archbishop’s Charter reflecting on how the school community will implement the Charter within their individual and local context and according to the particular charism of the school.

Pedagogical Framework

Dominic College’s Pedagogical Framework offers a set of guidelines that represent a shared understanding of effective teaching and engaged learning. It provides a platform to inform reflections on teaching practice, opportunities for professional learning, and the collaborative design of meaningful and relevant learning experiences to support and enhance student engagement and learning. Teaching and learning at Dominic College is based on St John Bosco’s Preventive System which calls for an environment that encourages expression by students and requires pedagogies that facilitate and enable a rich diversity of student expression. Learning at Dominic College centres on ‘expressive’ methods that support student engagement through:

  • Collaborative teamwork
  • Problem-solving
  • Communicating
  • Making connections and
  • Creating and expressing themselves in a variety of ways.

The College’s aspiration is for all students to achieve and grow as learners, and to generate their pathways for success and lifelong learning. Teachers at the College strive to teach in ways that empower students to take ownership of their learning, to make purposeful contributions to their learning environments, and to tackle issues arising in the world around them.
