Community outreach at Dominic College is a cornerstone of our mission to serve others with compassion and dignity. Through various initiatives, we actively engage our students and staff in making a meaningful impact within our local community and beyond. These experiences not only enrich students’ educational journeys but also cultivate a deep sense of service rooted in Catholic teachings. By fostering a culture of giving and selflessness, we empower our school community to embody the Gospel values of love, kindness, and justice.

Project Compassion

Project Compassion is the major annual fundraising appeal of the Catholic Church, organised by Caritas Australia and held each year throughout Lent. Project Compassion money boxes are distributed throughout the school, where spare change can be donated. In previous years, students have come up with creative ways to raise funds for this cause. We have hosted car washes and sold pizza, ice cream, chocolates, ice cream spiders, and soft drinks, with all proceeds going directly to Project Compassion.

Salesian Missions - Samoa

Our Salesian family extends beyond our borders. We have two sister schools in Samoa: the Don Bosco Technical Centre in Alafua (Island of Upolu) and the Don Bosco College and Vocational Technical Centre in Salelologa (Island of Savai’i). Each year, staff have the opportunity to undertake immersion experiences in Samoa to witness the Salesian spirit in action and share in mutual learning. These visits strengthen our friendships, deepen our connections, facilitate professional development, and provide much-needed support. We proudly support our Samoan brothers and sisters through regular fundraising and by donating teaching, learning, and other essential resources.

Mini Vinnies

The Mini Vinnies program is a school-based initiative inspired by the St. Vincent de Paul Society, involving students from Years 3–6. Teachers and students meet regularly to learn about social justice issues, develop leadership skills, and engage with the wider Vinnies community. Our College supports the St. Vincent de Paul Society by organising donations for the Vinnies Winter Appeal, collecting food, clothing, and other essentials for those in need.

Japanese Sister School

Our partnership with Shizuoka Salesio School in Japan enhances cultural awareness and fosters global citizenship. Together, we explore the Salesian tradition in an international context. Each year, staff and students participate in collaborative activities such as exchange programs, cultural immersion experiences, and the biannual Japan Study Tour.

SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY Shorts Day

SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY works to promote positive mental health and prevent suicide by normalising conversations and encouraging help-seeking. In support of this mission, our College participates in Shorts Day, braving the cold and the conversation by wearing shorts to school for one day in winter. It is a powerful way to show solidarity and raise awareness.

Walk Safely to School Day

Walk Safely to School Day is a community event that promotes road safety, health, and environmental awareness. Each year, our students gather at St. John’s Parish in Glenorchy and walk to school together as a united community.
